Riding Through Time: Coca-Cola Cowboy James Poffenbaugh

Riding Through Time: Coca-Cola Cowboy James Poffenbaugh

On October 28, 1940, at the banks of Trout Lake, Jimmy’s story began. James “Jimmy” Poffenbaugh’s name is synonymous with commitment to community service and Silver Spurs Rodeo.

James was raised by Frank and Frances Poffenbaugh, learning early on about the importance of family and the value of putting in a good day’s work. Those early years, filled with the excitement of sports—football, to be precise—taught him about teamwork, how to pick yourself up after a fall and bouncing back, lessons that would stick with him for the rest of his life. After he got his diploma in 1959, James was all set to become a pilot in the United States Air Force. Life, though, has its own plans, and a few health hiccups meant his dream had to change, but that didn’t mean his spirit did. He served with honor as a flight engineer and in-flight mechanic until 1965, when he hung up his uniform for good.

Coming back home,  he started a new chapter with the Florida Department of Agriculture, only to soon find himself stepping into the family business at Poffenbaugh Ford (now Kisselback Ford). This is where James climbed the ladder from parts, services, and sales to General Manager and then president, each step marked by his gift for growth and innovation and a pledge to the community that raised him.

James’s commitment went beyond the dealership doors. He got involved in pretty much every local group and project, from local clubs to county projects and initiatives by the Ford Motor Company. Yet, it’s his bond with the Silver Spurs Rodeo that really highlights who he is. From his days as a young volunteer to becoming an official member in 2015, James has been a pillar of the Silver Spurs, tirelessly working to uphold its traditions and contributions to Osceola County.

To James, a heartfelt thank you for your dedication to the Silver Spurs and Osceola County. Your journey has been a source of inspiration, and we’re all looking forward to more friendships, rodeos, and shared victories.
