Fun and interactive rodeo crafts your kids will love

Summer is winding down and the school year is on the horizon. During the last few weeks of summer vacation, the hunt is on to find new and exciting activities to do with your family. Brush up on rodeo 101, and try these at-home rodeo activities for kids. On the blog, we’re showing you some fun and interactive rodeo crafts your kids will love.

Make a rodeo outfit

Rodeo cowboys and cowgirls, contract personnel, and stock contractors all have a similar dress code they follow and are easy to spot in a Cinch long-sleeve button-down shirt, freshly starched jeans, Justin boots, and a cowboy hat. As an iconic piece of rodeo tradition, contestants sport different styles, colors, and brands that represent their own unique heritage. Make your own rodeo outfit with this easy craft tutorial!

Cowboy Hat

What you’ll need to make a cowboy hat:

1. Paper plates
2. Decorating materials (colored pencils, markers, pom-poms, glue, etc.)
3. Scissors

Directions:

1. Cut along the interior circle of the paper plate. Make sure to only cut about ¾ of the way.
2. Once cut, pull the circle forward and bend the bottom. Here you are creating the crown of the hat. Make sure to cut the top of the flap to make a crease. (see pictures)
3. After the hat is shaped, fold the crown back down and start decorating!
4. Once done, push the crown of the hat back up and wear your new hat!

Rodeo Vest

What you’ll need to make a rodeo vest:

1. A brown paper bag or a large roll of brown craft paper
2. Scissors
3. Decorating materials
4. Glue

Directions:

1. Cut 2 holes on either side for your arms.
2. If you’re using a large paper bag, you’ll have to cut a hole out of the bottom of the bag and cut vertically from the bottom to the top, to make a vest-like opening.
3. Start decorating!

Make a stick horse

A trusty steed is one of the most important aspects of competing in the timed events of a rodeo. In tie-down roping, steer wrestling, team roping, and barrel racing, riders and their horses must work together to get the fastest time. Make your own stick horse before trying out barrel racing, the roping events, or riding off to the wild, wild west!What you’ll need to make a stick horse:

1. A pool noodle
2. Felt sheets
3. String, twine or ribbon
4. Decorating materials
5. Googly eyes
6. Glue gun

Directions:

1. Take the end of the noodle and fold about 8 inches in half.
2. Grab the string and tie the pieces together.
3. Cut the felt into strips to make a tail and mane for your new mount!
4. Glue your eyes, mane, and tail on.
5. Decorate!
