5 things kids can do at the Silver Spurs Rodeo but not at home
We know. They have crazy after-school activities. They run around outside so they smell awesome at the dinner table. They want to unleash all that energy after being cooped up in a classroom all day. We’ve got a different outlet that only comes around a few times a year, so change it up. Let them unwind at the Silver Spurs Rodeo coming up in June. Here are a few reasons kids love rodeos in Florida and things they can do at the Silver Spurs Rodeo they can’t do at home… and let’s be honest… every kid loves the rodeo.
Chase a real calf and win $5
Yes. You read that right. At the Silver Spurs Rodeo, there’s a chance to let your kid’s sugar rush run its course as you just laugh and watch! So, here’s the deal. Kids will gather on one side of the arena across from five calves with ribbons on their tails. The calves are then released into the arena where the kids will chase after them as best they can to grab the ribbons. The kids with the ribbons each earn five dollars! This is when you kindly remind them who it was that made cookies for them just because and took care of them ‘all those years’ …and maybe they’ll split their winnings with you. Maybe.
Meet a Real Cowboy or Cowgirl.
Meeting a cowboy doesn’t have to be a toy story. At the Silver Spurs Rodeo, your little cowgirl, cowboy or ranch hand can come to meet, speak and hug on a real cowboy! You’ll see that there is more to the cowboy life than riding a bucking bronc or a raging bull. In fact, you’ll be able to see cowboys and cowgirls compete in other competitions such as barrel racing, steer wrestling and tie-down roping!
Scream as Loud as They Can Without Anyone Telling Them To Be Quiet.
You don’t have to worry about counting down to ten here. Between their screams and the crowd’s cheers, it will be hard to tell who’s louder. In fact, they might be encouraged to scream louder! And don’t let them have all the fun. Make sure you’re having a good time too!
Take a Selfie with a Rodeo Clown.
It may not be the first thing you do at the rodeo, but it’s definitely not something you should miss. When they aren’t trying to distract the bulls from the cowboys, they are still loveable entertainers that will keep smiles on everyone’s faces. With their crazy costumes, they may be an eyesore to the animals but an awesome addition to your photo! Let’s see how many Instagram likes that post can get!
Ride a Sheep. Literally. (June Rodeo)
Now let us elaborate on this. If your child has enough energy after chasing calves and screaming their head off, there’s another competition they can compete in! At our Rodeo in June, the Mutton Bustin’ event is where children are put on the back of adult sheep, and they try to hold on for 8 seconds. Sounds fun, right?! You just might have to keep the family dog outside for a couple days to avoid practice runs. At the moment, we don’t have this at our February rodeo.
No matter what you end up doing at the Silver Spurs Rodeo, you’re sure to have a good time and the kids will too. With excitement in the air, great food, edge-of-your-seat entertainment, and your family around you, how could you not have fun? Bring your family together to enjoy unique events and make our county-wide tradition a part of your own.
Are you ready to rodeo? Join us Friday, May 31st and Saturday, June 1st for the 143rd Silver Spurs Rodeo where you can watch seven of rodeo’s traditional events: bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, women’s barrel racing, and team roping! Hope to see y’all then!
