Celebrating Jackie Dalton's Women’s Lifetime Achievement Award

Jackie Dalton has been a dedicated Silver Spurs Riding Club member for about 35 years. Despite not growing up with rodeo traditions in her family, Jackie quickly found a sense of belonging within the club. She was drawn in by its familial atmosphere and the thrilling unpredictability of each rodeo event.

Jackie's journey began in New England, far from Osceola County. During her high school years, her family relocated to what was then a primarily traditional farming community in Florida. This transition marked a significant change for Jackie, who adapted swiftly, forging strong bonds with local families who introduced her to the cherished traditions of the Silver Spurs Riding Club.

Her daughter's interest in participating in the Miss and Little Miss Silver Spurs pageant spurred her initial involvement with the club. Jackie primarily aided young contestants as they navigated the tasks of pageant participation. She was a calming presence for the girls during their interviews with judges, offering silent support simply by being in the room, greatly alleviating their anxiety.

Jackie's dedication saw her becoming a fixture at various club events, from practice sessions to formal dinners, establishing deep connections with participants and their families. The annual reunions at the rodeo became highlighted events, where community members would gather like long-lost relatives, sharing updates about their lives—celebrations of new additions, achievements, and sorrows.

In 1987, Jackie’s daughter first competed in the Little Miss Silver Spurs pageant. Despite not winning, her daughter's resolve didn't waver, and she triumphantly claimed the title the following year, in 1988. This victory wasn't just a win for her daughter but also a pivotal moment for Jackie, leading her to become a member of the club's committee.

Jackie's profound commitment to the club and its members did not go unnoticed. To her surprise, Sara Berlinsky, the Big Boss of the Silver Spurs, recently called to inform her that she had been nominated and board-approved for the Women’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Jackie initially doubted the news, joking that perhaps Sara had dialed the wrong number. This recognition deeply moved her, serving as a testament to her years of service and the deep connections she had fostered within the community.

Today, Jackie looks back on her journey with profound gratitude and humility. For Jackie, the Silver Spurs Riding Club isn’t just a group of people coming together to celebrate their passion for rodeo; it’s a family that has grown to include her and her family, wrapping them in the warmth of shared traditions and mutual respect.
